Leffaillat: The Florida Project (2017)

Ilmestyessään arvostelumenestykseksi kohonnut The Florida Project (2017) oli indie-ohjaaja Sean Bakerin menolippu valtavirran tietoisuuteen. Yhteiskunnan marginalisoiduille ryhmille elokuvissaan äänen antava Baker, kuvaa The Florida Projectissa sosiaalista eriarvoisuutta ja köyhyyttä kuusivuotiaan Moonee-tytön (Brooklynn Prince) silmin. Moonee asuu halvassa hotellissa nuoren, työttömän äitinsä kanssa Floridan Disneylandin vieressä. Elokuva seuraa Mooneen ja muiden hotellin lasten elämää yhden kesän ajan, kun he lapsen mielikuvituksen kautta elävät parasta elämäänsä köyhyydestä huolimatta. Critically acclaimed The Florida Project (2017) was indie director Sean Baker’s ticket to the mainstream audience. Baker, who gives a voice to marginalized groups in society, portrays social inequality and poverty through the eyes of six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince). Moonee lives in a cheap hotel with her young, unemployed mother next to Florida’s Disneyland. The film follows Moonee and the other children of the hotel over the course of one summer as they live their best lives despite their poverty through the imagination of a child. At the same time, the grumpy but kind-hearted hotel manager Bobby (Willem Dafoe) tries to keep Moonee and the other children safe from the dangers that lurk outside the hotel. The Florida Project earned Dafoe his third Oscar nomination of his career.
